Tournament Manual
How the 80-team Kubbik Tournament works from start to finish.
1. Scoring & The "Koningsworp" (Toss)
Unlike traditional sports where you get points for a match win, this tournament uses Set-Based Scoring to account for time limits.
1.0 pt
Per won set0.1 pt
Per won Toss (Koningsworp)0.0 pt
Per lost set
Why the 0.1? The toss happens at the start of every match. The 0.1 points act as a "natural tie-breaker" in the standings, rewarding teams who win their tosses.
Tournament Flow
- Seeding: Teams are distributed using a Snake Pattern (1-20, then 20-1) based on their pre-tournament rank to ensure groups are balanced.
- Format: 20 groups of 4 teams.
- Matches: Each team plays 3 matches (Best of 2 sets).
- Advancement: Ranks 1 & 2 go to Poule 1. Ranks 3 & 4 go to Poule 2.
- Cumulative Score: Points earned during the morning Selection Round are carried over to the afternoon. Every set counts for the whole day!
- Format: 20 new groups of 4 teams (10 in Poule 1, 10 in Poule 2).
- Lunch Logic: Groups are split into 4 shifts to ensure everyone has a dedicated time slot for lunch.
Teams are ranked globally based on their total points (Morning + Afternoon) to determine their final bracket:
| Bracket | Source | System |
|---|---|---|
| A-Reeks | Poule 1 (Rank 1-16) | Full Placement (1-16) |
| B-Reeks | Poule 1 (Rank 17-32) | Knockout |
| C-Reeks | Poule 1 (33-40) + Poule 2 (1-8) | Knockout |
| D-Reeks | Poule 2 (Rank 9-24) | Knockout |
| E-Reeks | Poule 2 (Rank 25-40) | Knockout |
